Letter of Understanding During the Public Health Emergency for Chartwells

Friday, September 18, 2020

I am writing today with an update in regards to the Letter of Understanding between your CUPE 15 representatives and your employer Compass Group Canada (Chartwells).  A Letter of Understanding (LOU) has been negotiated to provide clarity and direction for both parties during the Public Health Emergency.

During this period those of you who have not been called back to work will remain on temporary layoff with extended recall rights from six (6) months to eighteen (18) months and extended health benefit continuance.

Chartwells has assured us that they will maintain your status as employees during this time as they appreciate the work you have done and your contribution of services over the years. We have ensured continuance of your benefits and seniority accrual during the temporary layoff period. Please see your LOU that is attached to review the terms and conditions.

Thank you all for your patience and support through this difficult time. I encourage you to bring your concerns forward so that we may address them as they arise. Our information base shifts daily and with that comes a lot of uncertainty. We may not always have answers for your questions, but we will always do our best to direct you to your options.

You may reach me directly by the email below, or through our office contact. If you are unsure that we have your current home address, please email the office so that we can update your contact information.

In solidarity,
Gail Johnson, Staff Representative, CUPE Local 15 - gjohnson@cupe15.org
