Vancouver Art Gallery Memorandum of Agreement Ratified

Monday, February 11, 2019

Dear Vancouver Art Gallery Members,

Today’s vote successfully ratified the Memorandum of Agreement as settled by the union and the employer through yesterday’s mediation. We thereby issue a full return to work as of 8:00 a.m. on February 12, 2019.

We understand many of you had concerns with the expectations of the employer upon returning to work. Due to the labour dispute many timelines and schedules have changed. Tomorrow will not be “business as usual”; we will all need to sit down with our managers and develop a strategy for completing work over the following weeks. We suggest you achieve clear direction from your managers before beginning work and stick closely to the guidelines in regards to workload and overtime. There will certainly be an adjustment period for both parties, and we encourage everyone keep an open mind yet follow the rules as agreed to.

The Bargaining Committee will be available for further debriefing and clarification in the weeks to come. If you have any personal concerns about how the new agreement affects your work, please contact a shop steward immediately. The Strike Committee and Bargaining Committee will be delivering an exit report to CUPE Local 15 within the next few weeks. Please send any comments to the Bargaining Committee through the chair, Noel Graves, at

Once again, you’ve made us all very proud to represent you at the bargaining table and on the picket line. The new agreement is the foundation upon which we can grow a new positive era of labour relations at the Vancouver Art Gallery. This whole experience has been beyond memorable and there aren’t enough words to express our gratitude for entrusting us with the process. We look forward to working alongside you all with a renewed sense of purpose and harmony. Solidarity Forever!
