Will you stand with us?

As a CUPE member, you may know what it’s like when a long-time progressive employer brings in a new boss who starts demanding concessions at the bargaining table. CUPE Local 1816 members sure do. Those members work at Pacific Blue Cross, a benefits provider, which probably supplies your benefits, whose new CEO took demands for concessions to the bargaining table and triggered the longest labour dispute in PBC’s history. That confrontational and regressive approach was supported by the Board of Directors.

In our view, when one of our employers turns from progressive to confrontational, it’s on us to take them on. That’s why CUPE BC and CUPE Local 1816 are launching a campaign to elect new, progressive board members at PBC’s annual general meeting on December 13 in Vancouver.

Help us send a message to Pacific Blue Cross that plan holders, workers at Pacific Blue Cross, CUPE members, and the broader labour movement want a progressive board that acts in the interests of plan holders and respects its own workers.

In May, PBC locked out the 600 employees who handle the dental, life, and disability coverage case files for more than two million British Columbians. The two-month lockout followed on the heels of PBC trying to roll back retiree benefits. It’s time to hold the board that allowed this to happen accountable.
